Manufacturing and development facilities

Grandtech is one of the few companies in Asia, who has fully integrated camera manufacturing facilities in Hong Kong and in Mainland China. We design and manufacture our own products in Hong Kong or in China accordingly from initial mechanical, electrical, optical and artistic design through tooling development to manufacturing steps of plastic injection, metal stamping, lens manufacturing, PCB mounting, and final assembly.

Our success is based on producing market competitive products, offering them in competitive price and high quality standard, and developing products with high efficiency and flexibility. We are the first manufacturer successfully launched and delivered the Megapixel CMOS digital cameras to the market. We emphasize on quality control in every of our manufacturing steps: design and tooling, component testing, functional testing during assembly and final product testing. Our goal is to make sure every of our cameras produced is of the highest standard and meet the expectation of our customers.

Hong Kong facilities

Grandtech's Administrative Office, main Research & Development Centre and Tooling Centre are located inside our headquarters in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong.

Our state-of-the-art development centre has the latest CAD/CAM software and computer hardware to help us to deliver the most advanced and cost effective product design. With a design team of 14 experienced and innovative engineers (mechanical, electrical and industrial), we design and develop new cameras efficiently in time and cost wise and the most important of all, is to make sure our customers satisfied.

Our lens design and tooling centre, operated by Lambda Optical Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Grandtech), is also located in our headquarters in Kwai Chung. Our chief optical engineer has more than 20 years experience in the optical design field. Together with our newly recruited engineers, we have an innovative optical design team which is capable of handling coating, aspheric lens and zoom lens design. A diamond turning machines will be equipped by Q1 2002 to produce aspheric lens tooling in-house and hence, our production schedule can be more accurate and easily controlled.

Our tooling centre is equipped with two American Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machines, three Electric Discharge Machine (EDM) machines and various types of milling and wire cutting machines. With more than 10 skilful tool supervisors and makers in house in Hong Kong, we can handle project in any size with high efficiency. Since the tooling centre is located adjacent to our development centre, our design engineers can easily monitor the tooling progress to ensure that a high quality tooling performance and an accurate schedule are maintained.

China facilities

Grandtech's main manufacturing facility is located in Bantian, Buji where is only 20 minutes away from the Hong Kong-Shenzhen border. The factory provides approximately 85,000 square feet area for engineering, manufacturing and production facilities. The factory also contains a dormitory for our 1000 staff and workers. With over 10 years experience in running China factories, our factory management team is capable of maintaining a high production and quality performance.

As a highly integrated factory, we manufacture nearly all components required for our camera manufacturing.

Plastic Parts

With 35 plastic injection machines, we inject all plastic components for our use. Half of the machines are imported from Europe and are able to handle highly precise parts. With direct support of our own plastic tooling department in Hong Kong, we are certain that all the injected parts are in consistent and high quality standard.

Optical Parts

With twenty Austrian Battenfield plastic injection machines and three vacuum coating machines, we manufacture and assemble lens, viewfinder, binocular lens and transparent plastic parts for our own factory use, as well as, as supplement to other manufacturers. By injecting, coating and assembling lens in house, we obtain the highest optical quality in a very low cost.

Metal Parts

With more than ten metal stamping machines, we do not have to rely on outside resources for metal parts. This ensures on-time delivery and the most important of all -- maintaining high precision standard on all the metal parts.

Electronic Parts

With the capability of designing and making our own transformers and triggering coils, we custom-made our own transformers to provide the fastest flash recharging time in the industry. We are capable of making 15,000 pieces of various kinds of transformers and trigger coils each day.

PCB mounting and assembly

There are more than 10,000 pieces PCB mounted in our factory every day by our skilful workers. High volume electronics assembling allows us to save cost and maintain consistency in high quality performance.

We are equipped with a high speed SMT production line in house, which is capable of assembling PCB efficiently and with high quality standard.

Production line

Our factory currently employs nine production lines with three of them dedicated to digital camera manufacturing. We manufacture 15,000 film and digital cameras per day. Every single camera coming out from our production lines has been successfully passed our 100% functional test Quality Control (QC). Together with the support of the Quality Assurance (QA) department, we are certain that all of our cameras produced are of the highest standard.

With dedicated manufacturing engineering team and experienced factory administrative personnel, we are flexible to adjust our production capability and capacity to meet different products requirement and urgent delivery. Our tight control in the overall quality standard, our consistent manufacturing process and good material planning allow our products to be always reliable, competitive and with satisfaction.
